Our beloved, spoiled, & Facebook famous shop cat, HunterLea grew up north of Wall, SD on a ranch and after high school attended Kansas State University. She obtained a BS in Animal Science and an MS in Animal Nutrition. A couple years after college she started in the Extension Service as an Agricultural Agent in Charles Mix County. After 5 years in that position, she joined Larry at Fairway Seed full time where they have worked together for 25 years supplying a variety of agricultural seeds to farmers and wholesale ag suppliers. An interest in bird watching and feeding started a retail business at Fairway to sell bird seed. This then turned into bird feeders & accessories. A variety of gifts have been added to offer an eclectic gift shopping experience.
About The Business
Fairway Seed has been a staple in the seed business since the 60’s. In the late 80’s, Larry started a feed business known as Larry’s Feed. In 1990, he moved his feed business to Fairway Seed when he took over the management of the business. In 1997, Larry & Lea purchased Fairway Seed and merged the two businesses. Since 1997, many improvements and changes have been made in buildings and equipment. Fairway specializes in certified small grains (oats, spring wheat, winter wheat), grass seed (pasture & lawn), alfalfa, and cover crops. Custom seed conditioning is also available.
The retail business started with bird seed which expanded into bird feeders, books, & accessories. The items have now expanded into a unique array of gift items. Bulk vegetable seed & seed potatoes are also available in the spring.
